------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Federal Government Home Page For the past ten years DENTSPLY International's Federal Government Division has been dedicated to the dental supplies and equipment needs of the Federal Government dental clinics. Our team makes personal visits to Federal Government dental clinics in the United States and Europe. Their job is to support your efforts through the introduction of new DENTSPLY products, techniques and training, as well as to help you to identify sources of cost savings. This specialized team is trained to represent the following DENTSPLY divisions: Caulk http://www.caulk.com Ceramco http://www.ceramco.com CeraMed http://www.ceramed.com Gendex http://www.gendexxray.com Maillefer http://www.maillefer.com Professional http://professional.dentsply.com (Preventive & Midwest) Rinn http://www.rinncorp.com Tulsa http://www.tulsadental.com Trubyte http://www.trubyte.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hierzu laut Businesswire:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John C. Miles II, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DENTSPLY: "Our combination with Degussa Dental also strengthens our presence in Europe and Japan. Degussa Dental holds the number-one position in Europe, and also importantly, is the market leader in Germany, which represents over 40% of the European market. In Japan, Degussa is the third-largest dental company, providing us with an exceptional opportunity to increase share in this large, untapped market, which has historically been very difficult to penetrate," added Mr. Miles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.4.1998 :
(Beweisstück:
http://www.ariplex.com/ama/amacaul5.htm )
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 3, 1998 Dentsply revises guides for products Dentsply International is rewriting the directions for use (DFU) on its Dispersalloy, Megalloy and Unison amalgam products. Last year, in an effort to comply with labeling requirements in Germany, the company recommended not using dental amalgam for patients who are either pregnant or younger than 6 years old. Seeking to implement uniform labeling worldwide, Dentsply printed these same recommendations on its amalgam products marketed in other countries. Since the latest scientific research continues to confirm the safety of dental amalgam, these latest DFUs have puzzled some dentists. In a statement issued last month, the company said, "We now realize that accommodating such German requirements in universal labeling may have caused some confusion about the appropriate uses and warnings for amalgams. To address this issue, Dentsply has removed these contraindications from its website and is currently revising its DFU to reflect contraindications and warnings that are consistent with accepted scientific information. Based on current data, we continue to believe that amalgam products are safe." The ADA's Council on Scientific Affairs recently completed a 4-year study of the scientific literature that confirms the safety of dental amalgam. The council's findings are published in the April 1998 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association. ADA officials note that on the basis of the scientific research and more than 150 years of experience, amalgam continues to be a safe, affordable and durable restorative material.

In ihrem "Bio-Probe Newsletter, March 1998", meldet Bioprobe:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "AMALGAM WARNING BY MANUFACTURER!" The American Dental Association (ADA): The ADA may now be in a difficult, if not untenable, position. The prevailing ADA position is that patient exposure to mercury from amalgam dental fillings is harmless. The ADA currently promotes this position on its Internet site (dated 1995, without consideration of current published research), at the same time and contradictory to the ADA position, a major amalgam manufacturer is exhibiting its public warning. Of major significance is the fact that the ADA has pleaded in a Court of Law that it has no legal duty of care to protect the public from allegedly dangerous materials used in dentistry, as it does not design, manufacture, supply or install amalgam fillings [see BPNL, 11(4), July 1995]. Meanwhile, the ADA has added to its Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct a provision declaring it unethical for a dentist to recommend the removal of clinically serviceable amalgam fillings to eliminate exposure to mercury [Section 1-J], a provision widely utilized by state dental boards. At the same time, the ADA Code contains a provision providing an "obligation" for dentists to inform on the results of their investigations when they are useful in safeguarding or promoting the health of the public [Section 4]. This is clearly a dilema for dentists in regard to dental amalgam; dentists are unethical if they do inform and unethical if they do not inform patients of potential adverse effects to amalgam mercury! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A letter from Dentsply, United Kingdom stated:
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Regulations in the State of California, USA and Germany only,
stipulate that these regulations must be adhered to.
This however, does not apply to the UK where
BDA [Ed note: British Dental Association] assurances are
currently fully supported by DENTSPLY."
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bio-Probe has learned that Dispersalloy sold in California does contain the
DFU insert containing the warnings and contraindications,
whereas that sold in some other states do not.
The message, apparently, is that if Dispersalloy is placed in California, it
could have adverse effects and requires warning the patient.
If, however, it is placed in other states there could not be any adverse
effects and therefore warning patients is not required.
The same, apparently, would apply to the other European Union countries other
than Germany.
While the logic of this dichotomy defies explanation, the legal question
should provide fertile grounds for investigation by attorneys.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note the changes to the above information that was published in the May, 1998 Bio-Probe Newsletter In the last issue [BPNL, 14(2), March 1998], we reported that Densply/Caulk (D/C) had placed side effects, warnings, precautions and contraindications for its Dispersalloy and other amalgam products in the "Directions For Use (DFU)" on their Internet site. Subsequently, we learned that Ivoclar had issued even more stringent warnings and contraindications in the DFUs for their amalgam products, although these were not placed on the Internet. As might be expected, the hue and cry resulting from this was monumental! Densply/Caulk quickly removed the DFUs from its Internet site and has announced that the DFUs would be "modified" to conform with the "current" position that amalgam products are harmless to patients. The explanation for the original posting was that it was in response to Proposition 65 in California and European Union (EU) requirements for the CE labeling, for marketing specifically in Germany. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
