Texas Instruments Enhances Livegear (TM) Accessory Line
With Removable High-Capacity Diskette Drive

More Storage, Faster Access for Large Files

DALLAS -- November 25, 1996-- Continuing to expand and enhance mobility options for their customers, Texas Instruments today announccd the availability of a removable diskette drive that will enable users of TravelMate (TM) 6000 Series notebooks to store up to 210 MB of data on a media cartridge. Thec high capacity media cartridges, which are palm-sized, work with a removable cartridge disk drive that fits into the modular bay. This new storage system is available immediately through TIs livegear (TM) accessory product line.

"The Avatar HARDisk will give our customers unprecedented flexibility and ease-of-use," said Steve Lair, vice president, worldwide sales and marketing for TI's Personal Productivity Products business. "They will be able to store massive amounts of data -- from extremely large multimedia presentations to high-resolution color photographs -- on a single cartridge. As a result, customers will be able to reserve interrud hard disk capacity for software applications and network communications requirements."

More Data, More Security
The livegear HARDisk drive from Avatar Systems Corporation features a high-speed transfer rate of 2. 1 MB/sec. and an access time of less than 12 msec. The high-capacity diskette drive uses rugged glass-media cartridges, which are smaller than a floppy disk and slightly thicker.

The Avatar HARDisk is similar in concept to the Iomega Zip drive that has gained popularity with desktop users, but holds up to 210 MB of data -- over 145 times the capacity of a 1.44MB floppy. In addition, both die HARDisk drive and the media cartridge are removable, so sensitive data can be stored in a locked cabinet for extra security.

"Our Travelmate 6000 series customers equipped with the Avatar HARDisk drive can easily deploy sales presentations and databases by simply distributing the paim-sized cartridges to remote personnel," continued Lair. "For heightened-security applications, customers can ensure daat security by saving confidential information on the removable cartridge rather than on the notebook itself"

livegear Accessories Complete the Mobile Package
The new high-capacity diskette drive System is just one of TI's many livegear accessory products. livegear consists of six specific product categories, each consisting of several accessory products: storagegear (TM) products, which indude CD-ROMs, hard drives and highk-capacity diskette drives; performancegear (TM) products such as RAM and EDO memory modules; powergear (TM) products thatt range from auto adapters to batteries; communicationsgear (TM) products such as synchronizcd personal organizers, speakerphone modems, Ethernet cards, MPEG cards and wireless LAN products; carrygear (TM) products, which consist of backpacks, protective accessory pouches and briefcases; and desktopgear (TM) products, which indude TI's unique desktop replacement solutions, DockMates.
